Tommy Reynolds
An eye-catching website for an established local photographer
The Project.
I've known Tommy for a good number of years and I'd always wanted to help him out with a nice website for his Travel & Portrait photography business. A few years ago he approached me and asked if I could build him a site that loaded really fast as he was losing potential clients due to SquareSpace's load times but also had an eye-catching design. I came up with this design in a few hours and he loved it, so we quickly got onto the build!
I suggested that the site should use Expression Engine for its security and because of how lightweight it is compared to WordPress (and all the plugins that come with it) as speed was a factor. I utilised Expression Engine's customised views to keep the content creation/editing layouts nice and simple to avoid overwhelming Tommy with a completely new tool - I try to make User Experience as intuitive as possible across the board.
Bootstrap was used for some of the front end, but there is a heavy amount of custom SCSS due to the way the design is. This posed a few challenges for the responsive side of things, but we managed to agree on how it should work and Tommy was really pleased with the outcome of the build. He'd had numerous comments on how fresh the design was at the time and I was really pleased to hear such nice feedback.
Whilst this site is a few years old now and isn't the main site he uses for his business, it still gets quite a few hits and is still a site I'm really pleased with.
